Week 1 Writing Exercise
Writing about how you feel (age 10+)
Please find a piece of paper and a pen or a pencil. Choose a quiet spot if possible and take a moment to relax.
We have just met Oliver, his family, and his friends. And, of course, his dog, Mr. Silly.
Oliver loves to go to school and play with his friends. Today he is very excited that his friends are coming to visit his dad’s farm.
When was the last time you were excited about something? Tell me about that time, what did you do, and how did you feel? Why was it so exciting? Even the smallest things can make you feel excited, like getting a good grade when you studied hard or your mom preparing your favorite snack when you did not expect it.
And while you are writing your story, I want you to know that it is ok to make mistakes because everybody makes mistakes. And remember, however you feel, it is ok, there is nothing wrong with feeling a certain way! I would love for you to share your story with me, please ask permission or help from your parents. And don’t forget to write down your name, so I know who it’s from.
